Establishment
The National Institute of Technology Arunachal Pradesh was established by the Government of India in 2010 under the Ministry of Human Resource Development (now Ministry of Education) as part of an initiative to expand quality technical education across the country, particularly in the northeastern region. It was inaugurated on 18th August 2010 as one of the newly established NITs and is recognized as an Institute of National Importance. In its initial phase, the institute functioned from a temporary campus at Yupia under the mentorship of National Institute of Technology Durgapur, which helped in setting up its academic and administrative framework. Over the years, the institute gradually developed its infrastructure and shifted to its permanent campus at Jote, where it is currently fully operational. The campus is located about 30 km from Itanagar and is designed as a residential institute surrounded by natural greenery. At present, NIT Arunachal Pradesh offers a wide range of academic programs including B.Tech, M.Tech, MSc, and PhD across various disciplines of engineering, science, and humanities. The institute provides several modern facilities to support academic and student life, such as well-equipped laboratories, smart classrooms, a central library with digital resources, high-speed internet connectivity, and research centers. It also has separate hostels for boys and girls, faculty and staff quarters, a health centre, sports facilities including playgrounds and indoor games, and a cafeteria. Additional facilities include a computer centre, seminar halls, transportation services, and spaces for cultural and technical activities. The institute continues to grow steadily in terms of infrastructure, research output, and placements, contributing significantly to technical education and development in Northeast India.
